Volunteer Opportunity Description: From The Ground Up Therapeutic Horsemanship Inc. (FTGU) offers horse-related activities and riding instruction for persons who are at-risk and/or have special needs. Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the program, including but not limited to: lesson volunteers (sidewalkers & leaders); special events committee members; fundraising & grant-writing volunteers as well as Board members. Therapeutic horsemanship is therapeutic for all involved, including volunteers. Experience is not necessary, FTGU provides all training. Volunteering with FTGU provides a unique learning experience for volunteers as well as a chance to help others gain self-confidence, independence and empowerment through the power of the horse.

Volunteer Opportunity Description: RSVP is a coordinates volunteers age 55 and over with non profit organizations throughout Madison County. Volunteer assignments are varied and we have many opportunities such as; leading exercise groups, acting as Resident Advocates/Ombudsman in long term care facilities, working as youth mentors, helping at food pantries, literacy tutoring. Training is provided at the assignment of your choice. Supplemental insurance and transportation reimbursement is available for RSVP volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunity Description: From the Ground Up Therapeutic Horsemanship, Inc. will hold its first Volunteer Training Day for 2010 on April 11 from 1-5 PM at Windy Meadows Farm in Pompey, NY. From the Ground Up Therapeutic Horsemanship, Inc. offers horse-related activities and riding instruction for persons with special needs and for those who are at-risk. The session on April 11 will provide initial training for new volunteers who are interested in assisting riders during lessons. Prior experience with persons with disabilities or horses is not needed. Trainees are asked to wear hard-soled boots or shoes (no sneakers) and also bring hat/gloves depending on weather conditions. This training will also be the introductory training for volunteers interested in assisting with our Horses for Heroes program.
